TIESed Newsletter - May 2016

May 2016

Welcome

The school year is winding down, teachers are preparing for summer school, and seniors are (hopefully not) sliding. At TIES, we are shifting our focus to the summer schedule and our big events like TIES Institute and iPadPaloozaMN. We’re looking forward to seeing you this summer!

  • Click and hold the green (fullscreen) button
  • After the windows separate, click the second window you want to display
  • Enjoy!

Synergise: Google Apps Training
Synergise started as an integrated training service for Google Apps only three years ago and was just bought by Google. Google will now offer the service for free to all Google Apps for Education (GAFE) customers. Users can install the Synergise Chrome extension and when loaded a Synergise Help button will appear on any Google Apps page. It opens a menu listing instructional videos related to the open page.

TIES 2016: Empowering Learners
The call for proposals for TIES 2016 is open. The theme — Empowering Learners — focuses on how technology empowers students, teachers, staff members, and school leaders. We are seeking proposals for preconference workshops, listen and learn, explore and create, and poster sessions encompassing this year’s theme. Workshop proposals are due July 29 and conference session proposals are due August 26. For more information and to submit your proposal, please visit the TIES Conference website.

TIESed Digital Learning Leaders Program
August 2016 – May 2017

Today’s digital learning leaders and specialists are responsible for helping teachers design, create, and curate digital resources, use technology tools for teaching and learning, and lead their school or school district in providing engaging, real-world learning experiences for students.

The TIESed Digital Learning Leaders Program is an extended professional development program that runs from August 2016 to May 2017. Our content and activities are based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) recommended standards for technology coaches. Topics of study will include:

  • Visionary Leadership
  • Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
  • Digital-Age Learning Environments
  • Professional Development and Program Evaluation
  • Digital Citizenship
  • Content Knowledge and Professional Growth

The new TIES Digital Learning Leaders Program will begin August 17-18, 2016 with two days of professional development designed to build skills for educators who wish to empower their peers with great resources, tools, and ideas.

In the TIES Digital Learning Leaders Program, you will get more than 50 CEU hours of research-based professional development including:

  • Five full days of face-to-face professional development
  • Individual coaching with an experienced TIESed educator
  • Opportunities to present at the TIES Conference and other forums
  • A connected community to exchange ideas and practices with other digital educators
  • One-day registration at the TIES 2016 Conference in December 2016
  • One or more site visits to schools that are modeling digital learning practices of interest
  • Goal setting and project completion support
  • Toolkit of best practices, resource banks, technology tools, and ideas
  • Certification as a TIESed Digital Learning Leader

Who should consider joining? The Digital Learning Leaders program is designed for anyone who is a leader in the process of integrating technology in a school or district. Participants from past groups have been library media specialists, classroom teachers, lab instructors, technology integrationists, administrators, and teachers on special assignment.

This one-year program costs $1,649 for TIES member districts and $1,949 for nonmember districts. For more information, please contact Cara Hagen, TIES lead education consultant, at cara.hagen@ties.k12.mn.us or 651-999-6505.
